Someone collides
into your car
If someone collides
into your car and no one is injured
you no longer need to report to the
police.
You must exchange
particulars (the registration
number and details of insurance of
the other vehicle) and report the
accident to your insurance company
using a Form that is available from
police posts and insurance companies (General
Insurance Association of Singapore
Form). If you are not satisfied
with the settlement of the claim by
the insurance company, you may
request the Insurance Ombudsman
Bureau to review the claim.
However, you
must report to the police
when the accident
results
in injury
involves
a government vehicle (QX or
MID number plate)
involves
a foreign vehicle
involves
a pedestrian or cyclist (even
when no one is injured)
Sometimes, you may
wish to file a claim against the
party who damaged your car. This may
arise when your insurance contract
does not cover (or does not cover
adequately) the damage caused to
your car or you may wish to preserve
your no claim bonus.
You may wish to
consult your lawyer for advice. Your
lawyer will write to the other party
and his insurance company to lodge a
claim. He will try to negotiate a
settlement to your claim. If no
settlement is reached, your lawyer
may file a claim in Court to recover
your losses.
You can see a sample
of a claim below.
